About Ngima Grimen Sherpa

Ngima Grimen Sherpa was a very bright young man, always in a good mood and always smiling, born March 31 1982 (same date as I, just one year younger). With his positive way of thinking, he managed to stay calm in tricky situations also.

He was married to his lovely wife and they had to daughters  (2012: 8 yrs., 1 yrs). Both children should have a better education than both of them did. Ngima had to leave school at the age of 10, his wife has never learned how to read or write. So Ngima decided that he wants to have a good salary so he can send both his daughters to a good school. Normally, schools are free (and not really good...) in Nepal. But if you want to send your children to a good school with future perspectives for the pupils, you have to invest quite a bit of money. It was very important for Ngima, that his two girls could go to such as school and have a good education. He was willing to do what was needed.

They lived in the Nepali Himalaya, many hours away from it's capital Kathmandu. Ngima's entire family lives in this meager area in the mountains. For all family members, there were no jobs so Ngima supported his entire family with his job. All were dependend on him. Even if they didn't want to, Ngima was the only chance for a proper living. With all his heart, he was working hard for his family.

Ngima went to Kathmandu where he was often booked for different trekkings and mountain expeditions. He has spend a lot of time of his life guiding in the mountains. He was a very talented and sensitive mountain guide who was truly appreciated by his guests. Ngima climbed many peaks, e.g. Ama Dablam, 6 (!) times Mount Everest, Dhaulagiri, Lotse and many more.

On Dec 23 2012, he got involved in a fatal motorcycle accident. After two days in Hospital, he lost his live much to early.

He left a wife, two young daughters and an entire family who was dependend on him. They are now stuck in a road where there is no end and no return. Their entire substance is now taken away, the future of the family is not existing at the moment and must be re-built, one of Ngimas main goals in life (to send his daughters to a good but costy school) will be be reachable.

I feel really bad and an unspeakable deep sorrow. Of course, I cannot bring back Ngima. But I can bring back the story of how he lived, of how he was, of our expedition to Singu Chuli in October 2012 (just a few weeks before this tragedy happened...), of his passion, of his life, ....

We had so many plans together to make business together and improve his and his family's life. Unfortunatey, we can never finish our business projects, but I now look for a new way to still reach our goal: I want to raise money to
  • financially support his family so they are able to buy what is missing and pay what is neccessary
  • to give hope and a perspective to his family
  • to make sure one of Ngima's really important goals in life can be achieved: His daughters can go to a good but costy school and have a good education --> Future perspectives!
  • and many more...

I cannot do this by myself, I need your help! Please help supporting Ngima's family by a donation. For us 'Westerners', I believe a small amount can always be given. Even a small amount will be highly appreciated and will help make a change in Nepal! We can survive if we gave up something (e.g. smoke less, buy less Coke etc.) for a few days and invest the amount saved in this donation. But they cannot live without your support!

Every dollar starts with a cent! Let's make a difference together for this family! They need your help!
